We are team members providing treatment and management in the Vernon County Drug Court Treatment Program and the Dade and Barton County Drug Court Programs. The mental health center provides School Psychodiagnostics in the Heartland Residential Care Center School. CMHC, Inc. operates a sex offender treatment program, child abuse and neglect assessment and treatment programs, and marital and relational therapy programs.

Heartland Hospital: Since the early 1980s CMHC has provided clinical services at many area hospitals. CMHC, Inc. clinicians provide clinical services at the hospital. While the hospital has had many changes of ownership, managers, and has a checkered quality and performance, our diagnosticians continue to be involved and make attempts to provide quality clinical input and encouragement for a commitment to quality treatment. We are more or less actively involved in the hospital based on the management's changing commitment to quality and collaboration with doctors and master's level practitioners.

Nevada Regional Medical Center: Since 1980 doctors of psychology and psychiatry and licensed therapists at CMHC, Inc. have been on staff at the NRMC. The clinicians at the mental health center were instrumental in starting a Behavioral Health Unit in the medical center and place and treat patients with psychological problems there. In addition we provide coverage for the ER mental health constutations, diagnostic consultation and treatment for patients on the medical/surgical units who have psychological problems or behavioral problems affection their physical condition.

Drug Court Programs: CMHC, Inc. collaborates with the courts in Cedar, Dade, Barton and Vernon Counties to provide a state of the art Drug Court Programs. These programs provide day treatment, outpatient care, and family treatment for individuals who are addicted and come into contact with the courts. The expansion of these programs into the Southern portion of the CMHC, Inc. treatment region makes us one of the largest rural drug court programs in Missouri.

CMHC, Inc. Training Programs: Capstone Training Experiences which integrate and expand years of academic preparation. Our training programs emphasize practice preparation for the rural culture and rural specialty areas. Consequently, a strong generalist orientation with extensive family therapy skills constitute core components of our programs.  CMHC, Inc. trains psychology interns and post doctoral residencies, provides Nurse Practitioner Clinical Placements, provides two year substance abuse counselor training residencies, provides two year marital and family therapist and professional counselor residencies, and provides specific corporate stress management and organizational consultation programs and employee development and EAP programs.

Rural Clinical Psychology Training Program:  The psychology-training program offers both a pre doctoral internship in rural clinical psychology (with training tracks in family psychology, neuropsychology, hospital psychology, child and adolescent psychology, SMI, addictions, geropsychology, and forensic psychology), and a postdoctoral residency in rural clinical psychology.  In the spring of 2003, our faculty reviewed our involvement with APPIC and decided to resign from our association with them citing the belief that we can enhance the quality or our program and conserve precious program resources by being freed from tethering to interventions and actions which are not helpful to students and faculty in the pursuit of excellence, and that we can attract a higher quality of intern by non-lottery selection processes. That decision has proven correct and our faculty think we have since improved the quality of applicants, feel no pressure to pass applicants who do not meet our standards, and can have realistic appraisal of our supervisors, programs, and applicants.  We have invested the budget that was consumed by APPIC membership fees, correspondence negotiations, and procedure to the purchase of materials for our growing professional library. We are happy with our decision to have no direct or indirect affiliation or involvement with the APPIC organization, and any inadvertent reference to APPIC in this Web site is an error of proofing and construction. Jerry Morris, Psy.D., MBA, MS(Pharm), ABPP, NCSP, NBCC, CCM and nationally approved Supervisor AAMFT, certified by the APA National College of Psychology: Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Abuse, a member of the National Academy of Practice, and author of books, chapters, and scientific and professional articles is the Training Director. Dr. Morris indicated that CMHC, Inc. will continue it's tradition of providing the highest quality rural clinical psychology training internships and post doctoral residencies and assisting psychologists in adapting to the changing market place.  He indicated that our program will continue to look toward affiliation with other training accreditation bodies which have clinician rather than academician orientations. He noted that NAPPP (www.nappp.org) is the national association for psychology practitioners and that they are currently developing training guidelines and training program credentialing and that CMHC, Inc. will affiliate with them when these systems are completed. Dr. Roger Wise is a clinical psychologist and licensed social worker and holds a master's degree in divinity. He is faculty in the rural psychology training program and has served as a committee member for the Missouri Psychological Association and as the President of the Southwest Missouri Psychological Association. Dr. Kim Delgado is a practitioner who did a rural clinical psychology internship and a rural clinical psychology post doctoral residency.  Dr. Kristen Davis is also a member of our psychology department.

Applicants to the psychology internship and postdoctoral residency are accepted and should include three letters of reference, a professional resume, an official college and graduate transcript, a writing sample, and a letter stating the student's theoretical and technique preferences and future goals in psychology and healthcare.  The psychology programs require that the applicant attach a letter summarizing their professional goals and interest.  Also, the applicant should provide letters of reference, a summary of professional and social service work experience, and annotate any licenses, certifications, or special skills.  The psychology program accepts applications from clinical, counseling, child, health, school, rehabilitation, & family psychology programs.  Regional accreditation of the applicant's school is required.

Our program is rigorous. Students should expect to participate in 25 to 30 hours of therapeutic activity and 10 to 15 hours of supervision, education, and assignments. Students who don't complete all assignments will not graduate from our program. Trainees are required to participate in a variety of rotations.  Additional areas of interest can result in arranged rotations (neuropsychology, geropsychology, forensic, child abuse & neglect, learning disabilities and school psychology, etc.). Several rotations occur simultaneously. Students have ample opportunity to join one of the faculty sponsored research clusters for dissertation work, research, and program evaluation experience.  Postdoctoral residents are required to complete a research or major written work during their residency.

Recent interns have been from: The University of Missouri Kansas City, Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, Brown University, Argosy University, and other regional and national professional schools and university training programs. While we prefer professional school and practitioner-scholar students, the faculty seeks interns and residents who are dedicated to health care delivery careers, and rates the trainee's personality attributes, commitment to practitioner goals, and clinical experience as the most important variables in selecting a trainee. In that sense, we are more interested in the characteristics of the individual over which psychology training was ladened than which school the student came from, APA or other accreditations, or grade point average. Experience in life as a leader, individual who enjoys involvement with others, and as a team player and in collaboration are helpful to the student competing for our training positions

Individuals seeking admissions to the psychology training programs may contact Dr. Morris (Training Director) at cmhcjerry@sbcglobal.net , or Dr. Wise  may be reached for questions by telephone at 816-380-4010.

HRSA and the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program:

The HRSA program and NHSC practitioners and providers join Primary Care Centers and health care systems to serve underserved, rural, and impovershed populations and patients and allows systems to train quality practitioners who seek to care for these populations.  CMHC, Inc. is an approved HRSA Site at Nevada, Butler, Adrian, and Harrisonville MO and has an application in for our affiliated primary care center in Adrian MO.  HRSA scholars and practitioners qualify for two years in service (with renewall options) in approved sites with attendent repayment or support for student loans.  In this way, underserved areas get improved health care services, and practitioners fill a need and become trained in serving special populations.  HRSA providers at CMHC, Inc. will have salaries adjusted and equalized with the Government Occupational Handbook Median annual salary for their discipline, and they have their malpractice insurance paid.  They must work a minimum of 40 hours per week on site at one of the company's approved HRSA sites (unless on a half-time contract), and may have some weekend or evening service schedules, and depending on their discipline emergency coverage schedules.  Attendence at multi-disciplinary team meetings, group and individual supervision, didactic training, and specific training and programatic assignments should be expected.  Some travel of up to 30 miles between sites may be necessary since we are a very rural area.  You should be expected to interact with psychologists, physicians, nurses, social workers, professional counselors, substance abuse counselors, marital and family therapists, and other health care professionals.
